Sydans Apartments and Villas

 Anguilla is known for its luxury resorts and villas. I'm often asked if there are any more reasonably priced places to stay. Of course there are. There are numerous small inns and guest houses, mostly owned and operated by local Anguillian families, that offer a clean, comfortable lodgings. Sydans apartments on Sandy Ground is an example. The units are located on the salt pond, across from Johnnos restaurant and bar. Apartments feature full kitchen, private balcony, air conditioning, and they are located just across the street from the Sandy Ground beach. The picture here was taken from the porch of one of the units that face the pond. Sandy Ground is the closest thing Anguilla has to a quaint tropical seaport. It has a long, protected sand beach without surf, and with numerous places to eat (Ships Galley, Barrel Stay, Ripples) and Johnnos and the Pumphouse for entertainment. Sandy Ground is where most holiday boat races start and end. Sydans is friendly, budget lodging across the street from Sandy Ground beach, on the small, undiscovered Caribbean island of Anguilla. We have ten apartments around an interior courtyard. They have air conditioning or ceiling fans, TV, kitchens, and king or twin beds. Sydans is a complete home away from home. Since every apartment has a kitchen, you don't have to go out to eat. But if you want to pamper yourself, the Pumphouse, Ripples and Johnnos are all within a few easy steps. Three of the apartments have porches on the salt pond. Some of our apartments are studios with kitchen, sofa, and king bed. French doors open onto the courtyard. Sydans air-conditioned apartments are next door to the historical "White House". Our shady courtyard provides a haven from the tropical sun and the world outside as well. Do you like to walk: the road around the pond leads to a historic well, a natural spring, pass the hydrophonic gardens, and Road Well Cafe. Bird watching: let us know and we can arrange for a nature tour of Sandy Ground. Sandy Ground village is a thin strip of land in Road Bay between the beach and the salt pond. Here is a view of Sandy Ground. Sydans is a one minute walk to Sandy Ground beach, a wide expanse of sand protected by Road Bay - it seldom sees a wave. Gentle and welcoming for children and sailors too. The beach is fascinating to stroll - past local fisherman, visiting yachtsmen, sun-burned tourists, children playing in the sand, gourmet restaurants, and even a small luxury resort at the west end. Anguilla is laid back - no high-rise resorts, no casinos, no cruise ship crowds, no noisy jet skis. Just perfect weather, beautiful beaches, and an uspoiled ocean. What tropical fish will I see snorkelling or diving? Do you want to go scuba diving? There are several dive shops in Anguilla, but the most convenient for you, and the best (according to many people), is Dougie Carty (dcarty@anguillanet.com) who operates out of Sandy Ground village.
