A Rose on Colonel By, Bed and Breakfast |
![]() Overlooking The Rideau Canal, the world's largest skating rink! The entire floor is at your disposal - The Breault Lounge; The Connemara, Edward and Ryan Guest Rooms; The Cherry Bath and The Harlequin Bath. The Edward is named for Ann's Dad Ted, an avid airplane modeller. Treasured pieces from his collection are on display here. The Connemara is named for a Kawartha cottage in our family's past which in turn was named after an area in County Mayo Ireland. The Ryan is named for my childrens' Great Grandmother Lillian and Great-Great Grandmother Catherine, both born Ryans. The 135 year old twin beds in this room belonged to Lillian's parents. This is a NON-smoking B&B Two of the three guest rooms are booked at a time to ensure guests have exclusive use of their own private bathroom. The Connemara and The Edward overlook the Rideau Canal and offer queen beds while The Ryan offers twin beds. Two rooms, or indeed all three, may be booked by the same party to accommodate larger groups. Each room has a bed of hotel quality, silent ceiling fans, a clock-radio and a table, comfortable chair, laptop and TV cable hookups, ample lighting and closet space and a soft bath robe hanging in the closet. My friend Lynn Munro of Mosaic Imports (Chelsea, Quebec) worked with me to select the linens that adorn the guest rooms. In summer, window fans exhaust humid air from the guest rooms and lounge creating an environmentally sensitive effect of air-conditioning. The house is equipped with wireless internet for your laptop "surfing" needs. Lots of goodies in The Breault Lounge - a guest telephone, cable television, refrigerator, microwave, hot beverage service and library. A portable cable ready television is available for your guest room on a first-come first-serve basis. The Cherry Bath was almost called The Ambassador's Bath because of the diplomatic history of the house. We stripped the floor down to the hardwood and stained it a warm cherry. We like the new black too! I think. The Harlequin Bath was designed by Lynn's hubby Jamie who turned an unheated storage space into a work of art. Ann filled it with mirth. We called Jamie an “Arpenter” as a tribute to his building and artistry talents. You can't see the new shower fixtures in this photo but they are there I assure you! We think children, young and old, will particularly enjoy this room. Our Breakfast Menu
