Licuala Lodge, Bed and Breakfast
Mission Beach, Queensland
Closest mainland place to the Great Barrier Reef

Mission Beach accommodation at its best, set in the peaceful and tranquil township of Mission Beach, Queensland - close to the Great Barrier Reef. We have a great swimming pool, guest accommodation is separate to the main house, and we serve the yummiest breakfast in Queensland, and included in the tariff are complimentary drinks - tea, coffee, soft drinks and BEER - how good is that !!

Licuala Lodge is an award winning timber pole style accommodation in Mission Beach, Queensland, part of Queensland's Great Green Way, where we guarantee that you will enjoy your stay with our famous 'All you can eat Breakfast', (see our Queensland Bed Breakfast page) our magnificent Waterfall Pool and relax with our Complimentary Drinks - tea, coffee, soft drinks and BEER !! Now is there anywhere else on the planet, never mind Queensland, that gives you BEER for free?! And it is not just one free soft drink or beer when you arrive - it is free soft drinks and beer for the duration of your stay - just help yourself from the fridge in the guest lounge. On arrival we'll make you a nice cup of tea or coffee, and a few home-made biccies or muffins. Or of course a cold beer. What else could be better after a long drive ?? Here it is so peaceful and tranquil - no airport noise, no traffic noise .... ahhhh, bliss !! Ideal for that romantic weekend. Have a stroll around our tropical gardens (see Queensland accommodation page) and marvel at our array of bromeliads, gingers, heliconias, grevilleas and all sorts of other exotic tropical plants. We have a couple of bikes that are available at a small charge, loads of games and books - you're welcome to swap paperback books here (see accommodation Queensland). If you really can't bear to be away from the computer, then access to the Internet is here at Licuala Lodge - the best Mission Beach accommodation (probably).

Guest accomodation in this Mission Beach Queenslander style home is separate to the main house. All rooms are fully ensuite with queen size beds. Each unit opens onto the verandah that joins the main house via a walkway. And we also have family accomodation which is in the Queenslander house - see the Prices page (aka the Great Barrier Reef accommodation page) for more info

All rooms are built in that unique Queensland accomodation style, and have queen size beds and are fully ensuite, with fan, fridge, radio alarm and their own convenient undercover parking facilities. The shower is a nice big size with shower door - not one of those horrible shower curtains. We can add an extra bed to sleep an extra adult or child - a bit of a squeeze, but OK nevertheless. Please note that the Lodge is NOT suitable for children under the age of ten.

So what do you get for your breakfast here at Licuala Lodge. Well let me tell you, it is none of this "there's some milk in the fridge, cereal in the cupboard, and a few slices of bread embedded in some plastic wrap". And believe it or not, there are one or two Queensland bed and breakfast places where the above is true.

Here at Licuala Lodge,a great Queensland bed and breakfast, your brekky is served on the upper verandah of the main house. All you have to do is get out of your nice Sealy queen size bed and walk a few metres from the guest accommodation.

Included in the price is a great Tropical Breakfast. This consists of cereal, fresh fruit salad (and I mean really fresh !!), toast, jams, honey, cheese, salami, ham, yogurt, muffins, tea, coffee and real 100% juice (normally orange, and if you are lucky enough pineapple and apple will also be on offer). Sue prepares the fruit salad in the morning so it really is fresh. What does Sue put in her fruit salads ? Mango, melon, pawpaw, seedless grapes, strawberries, banana, kiwi fruit, plum, apple, pear, pomelo, grapefruit, lychee, rambutan. I'll bet some of you have never even tasted some of these exotic tropical fruits, or even never heard of them !! All the fruit is grown locally, and as such is seasonal (for instance mango season is November through to about May), so you won't always get all of the above, but pretty much most of it. I won't pretend that all the fruit is organic, but I can assure you that we do try to get organic stuff whenever we can. And one of our suppliers grows a fruit called a Lemonade - yes a Lemonade. Now I'll bet you thought a lemonade was a soft drink !! Cereal is a choice of muesli, crunchy nut corn flakes and some other in vogue cereal. And of course for the kids we have Coco Pops (and Nutella!!). The yogurt is home-made. The vanilla yogurt is particularly worth getting out of bed for. Also we have both vegemite and marmite, and Nutella!!(Many thanks to all of you who brought us a jar of marmite in response to the request for marmite that we posted on the website - we were flabbergasted. We are now OK for marmite for the next few years!!)

Most days you will get a couple of pancakes with maple syrup - you lucky people !! Hot cheese bread (sometimes with bacon) is on offer pretty much all of the time. And on occasions head chef Sue makes her delicious toastie things - everyone likes them, they're yummy. Once you taste her toastie things, you will invariably ask her for the recipe. And her standard reply is "it's a secret, and if I told you I'd have to kill you". This is one of Sue's standing jokes (so make sure you laugh when she tells you), along with her fancy dress party joke where a man comes to the party dressed only in his underpants. Get Sue to tell you that one, she always fluffs the punchline. So all of this adds up to the yummiest breakfast in Queensland - and you can have as much as you want.

The water we use is filtered through the Nikken Pimag Water System. The water that comes out is absolutely beautiful - I kid you not. So your coffee tastes like coffee, and your tea tastes like tea. I can't recommend the Nikken system highly enough. If you want to see it in action just have a peek in our kitchen. Small wonder this is a truly great Queensland bed and breakfast.
